When Pandora looked in she saw by meluseena When Pandora looked in she saw by meluseena
Was going for a Boschian, Remedios Varo feel here. Just a little something I did in-between projects.

This was created using digital collage technique that involves the layering of many photos and textures and much brushing over, to create a new unique image. Essentially its like good old fashioned collage... only it's done in photoshop, and extensively repainted. Stock is artist's own or released on the creative commons.

This is fascinating. It's hard finding words to describe it, but needless to say I like it.

Your pieces are something else! awesome! now I'm curious though ... I know how traditional collage is done, but would you by any chance mind sharing with me some info about the digital collage technique you use. sounds deliciously interesting! perhaps just a link where I can read and learn about it... thanks a million!

Well.. Finding a link where you can read about it is hard. I kind of made up this technique as I went along - I am sure other artists use it, it doesn't really have a name though. I'm just calling it 'digital collage'. Basically, one could consider it a kind of photo manipulation, but it doesn't fit under that umbrella because of the way photos are used - rather than take a model and put her in a setting, the model itself in digital collage is built up from several different pieces of photo, and patched up, using a lot of airbrushing. Textures and photos are integrated to build the entire image from scratch, that is, more often than not a background is not a simple landscape shot, rather an integration of several elements to make up a landscape. The aim of digitla collage for me is to make a painting vibrate, looking partially real (photo parts) and surreal (painted elements or ones patched up).

I'm sorry this can't be any clearer... maybe sometime I'll write a book about it or something ;) I know there's at least one artist on DA who does digital collage who also calls it digital collage.. but I've forgotten his name!

I work in photoshop. If you want to try it and learn it yourself, I suggest taking a photo of a face then putting lips, eyes, nose, from other photos. Then draw in some of the details. Remeber to alter the colours in the Adjustments tab, so every element 'fits' in the colour scheme of your base face. :) Use your own stock or make sure you alter elements heavily. :)

That's really helpful! Thank you so much! I'll definitely try it and see how I get on! and yes, maybe one day you'll write about this technique, I'm sure lots of deviants would find it very useful!
